Daly City is located in San Mateo County of California, United States. It is named after the famous businessman and landowner, John Daly. As of 2000, Day City had a population of 103,621. The city is located at 37°41'27?N, 122°27'57?W (37.690700, -122.465950). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.6 square miles (19.6 km²), all of it land.

The census of 2000 estimated, there were 103,621 people, 30,775 households, and 23,081 families residing in the city. The population density was 13,703.8 people per square mile (5,292.1/km²), making it among the most densely populated cities in the country. There were 31,311 housing units at an average density of 4,140.9/sq mi (1,599.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 50.69% Asian mostly Filipino, 25.90% White, 4.56% African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.91% Pacific Islander, 11.32% from other races, and 6.19% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 22.27% of the population.

There were 30,775 households out of which 34.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.0% were non-families. 18.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.34 and the average family size was 3.78.

Daly City is home to the Bnei Yisrael, which is the only wholly Karaite synagogue in the United States. The Cow Palace is one of the city's famous event venues. The indoor area has hosted many music concerts by the likes of Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Iron Maiden, Metallica, The Rolling Stones, as well as sports teams such as, the NHL's San Jose Sharks and the IHL's San Francisco Spiders. The Cow Palace also hosts the Grand National Rodeo, Horse & Stock Show.
