Craig Chaquico was born on September 25, 1954 in California, USA. He is a well known American guitarist precisely from Sacramento, California. Chaquico started playing the guitar as a young boy and by the time he was 14 he was playing professionally in some American nightclubs. Paul Kantner known for the Jefferson Airplane once saw him play in a night club as a 16-year-old, and eventually invited Chaquico to join him for a series of concerts and recording sessions. During this period Chaquico played alongside a number of legendary musicians including Jerry Garcia, David Freiberg, David Crosby, and Carlos Santana. The very first recording of Chaquico was with Kantner and Grace Slick in the year 1971 on their duo Sun fighter album.

He has had over thirty years of achievement in a variety of genres throughout his life starting in the 1970s with the post-Summer of with Love Jefferson Starship, he went on to the 1980s with the Journey-influenced Starship, and in the 1990s and 2000s emerged as a smooth jazz and fresh age solo artist. After casually joining the newly-renamed Jefferson Starship he anticipated to go back to school after one tour. However he had something good waiting for him instead, Kantner and Grace Slick approached him in 1972 and asked him if he wanted permanently to join the band. Craig jumped at the chance.

Craig remained with the band even after Kantner left and the band evolved into Starship. Most people remember his guitar performance from "We Built This City". He is also well known for his brown flowing long hair in the video accompanying the video.

At the time when Starship broke up, Craig began working as a Jazz/new guitarist. He went on to collaborate with Ozzie Ahlers since 1993 for his ten solo albums. The most famed of all albums is his second album, year 1994's "Acoustic Planet". This album garnered Craig a Grammy Nomination for the Best New Age album. From that time onwards Chaquico has maintained his standing as one of the most popular Smooth Jazz/New Age artists.

In addition to working with the various incarnations of the Starship, he also worked recurrently for the past 25 years as a studio musician with a variety of artists, including some names like Commander Cody, Tom Scott and Mickey Thomas.

Craig recently moved to Oregon along with his family. His current album is being tracked upon a MOTU hard disk recording system.
