Coralville Information: Tickets, Venues, Events and More

The city of Coralville is located in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. The community was christened Coralville in the year 1866, after the Havard zoolist, Louis Agassiz spoke about the “Coral Reefs of Iowa City” in a lecture and presented samples of local fossilized coral. This inspired the citizens of the town and finally they named the area Coralvelle. It was incorporated as a city in the year 1873.

The geograghical extension of Coralville is 41°41'18?N, 91°35'12?W (41.688215, -91.586764). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.2 square miles (26.5 km²), of which, 10.2 square miles (26.4 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.39%) is water.

According to the census that was held in 2000, there were 15,123 people, 6,467 households, and 3,317 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,484.1 people per square mile (573.0/km²). There were 6,754 housing units at an average density of 662.8/sq mi (255.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 86.97% White, 4.23% African American, 0.34% Native American, 5.20% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 1.07% from other races, and 2.14% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.04% of the population.

There were 6,467 households out of which 28.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.3% were married couples living together, 8.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 48.7% were non-families. 34.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.21 and the average family size was 2.96.
