The Commerce City is located in Adams County, Colorado. The city is a Home Rule Municipality situated 4 miles southeast of Thornton and 5 miles northeast of Denver. Commerce City has been ranked the 20th most populous municipality in the State of Colorado. According to the United States Census Bureau, the cit had a population of 34,189 in 2005.

As per the 2000 census, there were 20,991 people, 6,668 households, and 4,974 families residing in the city. The population density was 812.2 people per square mile (313.6/km²). There were 6,873 housing units at an average density of 265.9/sq. mi (102.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 42.24% White, 2.41% African American, 1.71% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.51% Pacific Islander, 25.6% from other races, and 4.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 52.81% of the population.

Commerce City is located at 39°50'27?N, 104°54'4?W (39.840735, -104.901139.) According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 25.9 square miles (67.0 km²), all of it land.

Commerce city's new soccer stadium named, Dick's Sporting Goods Park hosts the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer. Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge and Sand Creek Regional Greenway are the great natural attractions in Commerce City.
