Rising out of the Great Depression, and after having survived such major obstacles as a World War and devastating hurricane, the Allstate Sugar Bowl ranks as one of the most uniquely successful college football events in the history of American sports.
The Sugar Bowl has been one of the most popular college football bowl games each and every year since 1935. Currently played at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Sugar Bowl is a BCS Bowl game and host for the SEC Champions each year, normally pitting them against a highly ranked at-large team. In previous years the Sugar Bowl has been sponsored by Nokia, but thanks to the game's new sponsor, Allstate, it is now known as the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The Sugar Bowl has also been the site of the BCS Championship games in 2000 and 2004.
The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) is a five-game series of postseason college football games, designed to match the #1 and #2 ranked teams in a national championship game, while providing four other exciting and competitive games amongst eight of the most highly regarded teams in college football that year. The five BCS bowl games are the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, the FedEx Orange Bowl, the Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi, the Allstate Sugar Bowl, and the BCS National Championship Game that is rotated between BCS bowl sites each year.
