Oregon Ducks 2009 College Football Season Preview
|
 The Oregon Ducks had a great 2008 college football season. The team finished second in the Pac-10, just behind the USC Trojans. The team ended their regular season with an incredible 65-38 win over intrastate rival Oregon State and went on to win the Holiday Bowl with a 42-31 win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
The Ducks enter the preseason polls with a number 13 ranking in the ESPN poll and a number 14 ranking in the USA Today poll. Oregon has the advantage of having Jeremiah Masoli, the number one rated quarterback in the conference; and a freshman named Cliff Harris that could have a tremendous impact on the secondary.
Oregon has a big bruising running back named LaGarrette Blount that ran for 17 touchdowns and averaged 7.3 yards a carry last season. The Ducks will remain a high –scoring machine with Blount and Masoli. The defense has some bright spots as well. The secondary has returning cornerback Walter Thurmond and safety T.J. Ward to stop he other team from going deep.
Unfortunately, the team has to try and replace big hole on both lines. The offensive line has a mere 20 combined starts and the defensive line has a single returning starter, Will Tukuafa. The receivers are woefully inexperienced as well, but they should be fine in the spread offense with Masoli at the helm…if he is not busy dodging tacklers.
