"The Best Damn Band in the Land"
is the 225-member, all-brass Ohio State Marching Band that formed in 1879 as a military band. Also known as "The Pride of the Buckeyes," the band perhaps is best known for the incomparable Script Ohio. Another band tradition of note is the "skull session," a warm-up concert/pep rally in St. John Arena, open to the public before every home football game.

One of the more visible symbols of Ohio State athletics is Brutus Buckeye, the school's mascot. Brutus first appeared in 1965.

 The Ohio State Buckeyes ended the 2008 college football season 10-2 and then met the Texas Longhorns in the Fiesta Bowl. The Buckeyes again lost a BCS bowl game, this time 24-21. The Buckeyes still come into 2009 as one of the best teams in college football, despite their almost annual BCS breakdown.
Ohio State's preseason buzz is tied to sophomore quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Pryor is expected to have to improve his accuracy and his touch, but he is also expected to be as dangerous as Michael Vick out of the backfield. The other reason for hope and jubilation in Columbus is the defensive line, which has three dangerous starters and plenty of help to come in and fill in for the fourth spot. The safeties are expected to be spectacular as well, meaning that the short game and the long game could be closed to the opposition.
The Buckeyes lack a star receiver and running back. This is a huge issue since the Big Ten is still considered a major conference. Also, the defense needs to replace a few important linebackers and cornerbacks, meaning that the middle game might be open for teams to attack.
