 The Nebraska Cornhuskers flourished in the first year with Bo Pelini as the head coach with a 9-4 record. The team came in second in the North Division in the Big 12 and then took off to Jacksonville, FL to play in the Gator Bowl against the Clemson Tigers. The Cornhuskers won 26-21 thanks to a huge third quarter.
Nebraska has a great defensive lineman in Ndamukong Suh and a great secondary. That defense is really the strength of this team, ranking among the top three in every statistical category in the conference in 2008. The team has managed to maintain that defense and hopes to break into the Top 25 and stay there this college football season.
The offense is a far cry from the option offense that at one time typified and terrified the nation. The team is more conventional and is putting that conventional set in the hands of Zac Lee, the most experienced quarterback on the roster having thrown two whole passes in his college career. Luckily, the offense still is a run heavy operation, so not every game will depend on Lee and his receivers being in sync.
