Background - Georgia Force
Virgil Williams owned the Georgia Force for a period of 3 years. During his tenure as the owner, the Georgia Force were able to make the playoffs only once in 2003. Then the team franchise was sold to Arthur Blank, owner of Atlanta Falcons in September, 2004. With Arthur's entry it was announced that the team would again return to the downtown Philips Arena keeping in mind the 2005 season.
The Nashville Kats made a return to the league and after acquiring all the pre-move history from the Georgia Force, they went on making this a 2002 expansion team. The 2005 season was the best season for the Force winning 11 while losing only 5 games. The earlier record of the team was not that good. Their record table reads: 6 wins, 8 losses (2002), 8 wins, 8losses (2003), 7 wins, 9losses (2004). The 2006 season is also not that promising with 8 wins and 8losses.
The Georgia Force's official mascot was a high-tech runner whose name was G-Force,. But now, the team's current mascot is a cuddly monster named Blu.
The Georgia Force has many notable players like Troy Bergeron, Nate Coggings, Markeith Cooper, Eric Zeier, Jermaine Smith, Matt Nagy, Dary Myricks, Carl Morris, Chris Jackson, Willie Gary, Kevin Gaines, Dan Curran, Nelson Garner etc. These players are practicing very hard to show their mettle in the upcoming 2007 AFL season. From 1997 to 2001, the Georgia Force began to play as the first Nashville Kats. As Nashville Kats they used to play at the Gaylord Entertainment Center. The Gaylord Entertainment Center is based in downtown Nashville. Initially they were coached by Eddie Khayat. Eddie retained the post for the 1997 and 1998 season. Eventually he was replaced by Pat Sperduto. The Georgia Force or the first Nashville Kats also participated in the ArenaBowl Championship besides participating in the AFL Championship.
It was December, 2001 the franchise for the Nashville Kats was purchased by an Atlanta businessman named Virgil Williams. Virgil Williams bought the deal for nearly $10 million (US). Williams shifted the team base to Atlanta and gave the team its present name.
