 The Florida State Seminoles had a great 2008 college football season, going 8-4 and landing in second place in the Atlantic Division of the ACC. The Seminoles then went to the Champs Sports Bowl to meet the Wisconsin Badgers. Florida State pummeled Wisconsin 42-13 and come into the 2009 college football season with a great deal of optimism.
The poll voters seem to agree. The ESPN poll has them ranked 20 and USA Today has them ranked 19 before the season has even begun. The team has enough respected names on the roster. Ryan McMahon and Rodney Hudson are two of the best offensive linemen in the conference and the team has a very good linebacker squad.
The offense is going to be real happy that every starter from offensive line returned. The blocking will allow quarterback Christian Ponder to choose whether to be an accurate assassin or destroy the defense in the box with his feet. The worry is that there is just not enough talent or experience at the receiver position to make this a truly deadly force.
The defense has a good group of linebackers, but a dreadful front four when it comes to stopping the run and a questionable secondary. If the secondary is able to get its act together then this will still be a good, but very flawed team that could challenge a lot of very good teams.
