 The Cotton Bowl is a United States college football game played annually since 1937 in Dallas, Texas. For 40 years the champion of the now-defunct Southwest Conference played as the home team in the Cotton Bowl. When the conference folded in 1996, the bowl lost much of its stature. It now matches teams from the Big Twelve Conference and Southeastern Conference.
What happened: Ole Miss QB Eli Manning was the featured star, but it was the running game, including from Manning himself, that won the Cotton Bowl as the Rebels ground out 190 yards with the most important coming on a final drive to run out the clock and keep the ball away from the Cowboys. Ole Miss started off the scoring on a 16-yard touchdown pass to Tremaine Turner who later added a two-yard touchdown run. Manning got into the act with a one-yard touchdown sneak in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma State got two touchdown runs from Vernand Morency and three-yard dash from Tatum Bell, but it was Rashaun Woods who almost stole the show with 223 yards and a score.
Player of the game: Ole Miss RB Tremaine Turner ran 20 times for 133 yards and a touchdown. He also caught two passes for 19 yards and a score.
