California Golden Bears 2009 College Football Season Preview

 The California Golden Bears ended the 2008 college football season in fourth place in the Pac-10 with an 8-4 record. The Golden Bears met the Miami Hurricanes in the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco and came away with a 24-17 win. The football team won a huge victory for the school.
Now, the team is ranked 12th in the preseason power rankings from ESPN. The California Golden Bears stars include running back Jahvid Best, offensive lineman Mike Tepper, defensive lineman Tyson Alualu, defensive back Syd'Quan Thompson, and punter Bryan Anger.
The Golden Bears have what is considered the best defensive line in the Pac-10, but also have a very good offensive line, which bodes well for running back Jahvid Best. The secondary is expected to be very good too. Overall, California has 16 starters returning after winning nine games last season, which is a very impressive stat.
Not so impressive is the passing game. California does not have a starting quarterback yet and the Golden Bears receiving unit is hardly primed to set the field on fire. There is also some concern that despite the greatness on the defensive line and the in the secondary, the all new linebacker core could ruin what could be one of the best defenses in all of college football.
