Point guard was a problem for the Vols last year. Goins should compete for a starting job right away, but even if he does not win that job, the 5-11 speedster will at least provide a capable backup. Josh Bone, a transfer from Southern Illinois University, and Skylar McBee will help strengthen the depth on the perimeter, but other than Goins it is Hall who has the skills to make an impact at power forward right away. Hall is a true low post scorer and while the Volunteers have a superb frontcourt, they could use a big body to play in the paint. It seems like every year that Vols fans are left wondering if Tyler Smith is returning to college or moving on to the NBA. Once again, Smith is back in Knoxville and poised for a huge senior season, and looking to top his over 17 points per game output from last year. While he went to the free-throw line an amazing 6.5 times a game, he is not just a slasher or post player, but he can hit the long shot, although he may be better off sticking to his mid-range game and attacking the basket. No matter how he does it, Smith will score plenty and help Tennessee out on the glass, while creating open looks for his teammates. With so many players returning, this team has the talent, depth, and experience to not only win the Southeastern Conference, but make a solid run in the NCAA Tournament. Can you afford not to be there, at Thompson-Boling Arena, when there is such a promising squad taking the floor? No, and that is why you need to get tickets right away to watch the Tennessee Volunteers make their championship run in person this year.
