Background - Seton Hall Pirates
The Hall also has three starters returning from the only team in the BIG EAST that boasted five double-figure scorers. The only slight hesitation for optimism for the upcoming season is that one of the lost starters is point guard Andre Barrett, a first team All-BIG EAST pick last year and one of the top point guards in school history. Last season, he averaged 17.3 points and 5.9 assists. He started every game in his 122- game career.

 But let's get back to the good news. Junior center Kelly Whitney returns after averaging 13.6 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds. He was an All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention selection. In the two NCAA contests, he averaged 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds. Swingman John Allen returns for his third season as a starter. The 6-5 junior, who has a strong mid-range game, averaged 12.4 points and 4.7 boards last year.
Freshman Brian Laing could offer some immediate help, especially defensively, at big guard and small forward. Forward Andre Sweet and guard J.R. Morris each posted 10.1 scoring averages last season. Sweet, a 6-6 senior, also pulled down 6.0 rebounds. Morris, a 6-5 junior, did not start, but was a valuable offensive spark off the bench. Barrett's spot at point guard could go to Justin Cerasoli, a highly-regarded 6-5 freshman. Another Big East team making headway and looking for a Big Dance invite.
