6-foot-7 junior Greg Brunner (11 ppg, 8 rpg) led Iowa in rebounding. Center 6'11 Erick Hansen, a shot blocker, takes over the middle after scoring just 2 ppg. They were still No. 1 in rebounding (38 per game) in the Big 10. Freshman forward J.R. Angle could be an x-factor this season. He is a pure scorer who knows how to get open.

 Coach Steve Alford has a tough-minded aggressive group of players who should be able to score. Pierre Pierce, Jeff Horner and Greg Brunner are talented and tough-minded individuals who know each other well. The team should get a boost from the addition of 6'-5' G Adam Haluska, who proved he could score when he played for Iowa State in 2002-03. The Hawkeyes need Erek Hansen to turn potential into production and become a factor in the middle. Iowa opponents averaged 68.9 ppg a year ago. Alford believes that the team's defensive performance will be the key as to whether this team gets to the NCAA tournament or not.
