Georgia Tech Tickets The 2009-2010 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets find themselves in a unique situation. Not often does a team go 2-14 in the ACC, see the departure of two of their top three scorers, and then expect to still make it to the NCAA Tournament, but that is what is going on at Georgia Tech this year. Coach Paul Hewitt is bringing in a superb recruiting class, his young team is maturing, and the Yellow Jackets finally have some experienced upperclassmen to go along with the talented youngsters. Now, the Ramblin' Wreck just needs to learn to win again. This team has a leader – Iman Shumpert, who as a 6-5 freshman guard led the Yellow Jackets with 5 assists and 2 steals per game, while averaging almost 11 points as well. Along with the entire team, his turnover numbers may have been a bit high, but that will improve with age. In the meantime, Shumpert will make his mark in games with his ability to finish around the basket. While Moe Miller can handle the as well, ending 2008-2009 with an average of over more than 4 assists per game, he is not much of a scorer, but is capable of shooting from long range. What Georgia Tech really needs is a three-point shooter; Lance Storrs is the best returning shooter, with only one three per contest. If Shumpert, Miller, or Storrs can become more consistent from beyond the arch, this offense will be much more of a threat than it was one year ago. Zachery Peacock put in time at small forward last year, and that is one reason why the Yellow Jackets were so tough on the boards. This season, look for the 6-8 Peacock to also spend some time on the perimeter where he is certainly capable of hitting the three-pointer, but also utilize his size to charge the paint and help on the glass as well. Possibly the best surprise of last season was Gani Lawal emerging as a consistent scorer and rebounder. Posting totals of 15 points and almost 10 rebounds a game as a sophomore, he has no quit in him at the defensive end of the floor either.

 All six incoming Georgia Tech freshmen were highly recruited, but more than Derrick Favors. The 6-10, 246 pound forward should be starting, and quite possibly even dominating, from the season-opening tip, while providing an immediate impact in the frontcourt. Add in Daniel Miller and Kammeon Holsey, who both would be the top recruit for most any other school, and depth will definitely not be an issue for the Yellow Jackets. The future star on the perimeter will be point guard Mfon Udofia, who may have to spend some time learning his way around, but is much too talented to leave on the bench too long. Also look for wings Glen Rice Jr. and Brian Oliver to push some of the veterans for minutes as well. Due to injury, it has been two seasons since D'Andre Bell started 22 games for the Yellow Jackets, and his nearly 7 points a game and tough perimeter defense were both sorely missed by Georgia Tech last season. Bell is now healthy and cleared to play for his senior season, and while he may not work his way back into the starting lineup, he should give this team some experience and be a shutdown defender when Hewitt needs him to be. With this much talent Georgia Tech could very possibly crack the top ten, challenge for the ACC Championship, and make a big dent in the NCAA Tournament. However, this is still a pretty young team and the Atlantic Coast Conference is not going to be easy if they do not grow up fast.
