 UConn's top returning scorer is Rashad Anderson. The 6- 5 junior swingman earned a starting role down the stretch last season and averaged 11.2 points for the year. He made the Final Four All-Tournament Team with Okafor and Gordon. With Gordon gone, Anderson probably will play more shooting guard this season. Last year, Anderson split time at the small forward with Denham Brown, who started 27 games and averaged 8.9 points and 3.9 rebounds. Both Anderson and Brown, a 6-8 junior, are 3-point threats.
The other forward spot will go to sophomore Charlie Villanueva. The 6-10 forward almost bypassed college ball for the NBA a year ago. He played 19 minutes per game last season and averaged 8.9 points and 5.3 boards. Big numbers will be part of his life, beginning now. The forward position is further loaded with a 6-8 sophomore Marcus White who was a redshirt in 2003-04 and 6'8 Ed Nelson, a transfer, should step in to a starting spot. Talent galore will once again show that Coach Calhoun is one of the best recruiters in the land.
