Coach Oliver Purnell and his Clemson Tigers have done great job over the years, but especially during the past two seasons. Despite the loss of three starters, Terrence Oglesby, K.C. Rivers, and Raymond Sykes, this is still a team which will compete with anybody in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Clemson's up-tempo style of play means Purnell would prefer to have at least a ten-man rotation, so with six players back who averaged at least 13 minutes per game and a very talented group of four newcomers, the Tigers will have the ten he is looking for.

Demontez Stitt spent much of his sophomore season dishing the ball to sharpshooters K.C. Rivers and Terrence Oglesby. However, Stitt still managed to score almost 9 points per game himself, and has the potential to score even more if needed. Unfortunately, Stitt is not much of a natural shooter, and also had some turnover problems late in the year, which opened the door for Andre Young to play a bigger role. Young may not be a dynamic playmaker like Stitt, but he did protect the ball much better and is a better outside shooter.

There is little debate over who the star of this Clemson team is – Trevor Booker racked up an impressive 15 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks and almost 2 steals per game. At 6-7, Booker may not be a typical big man, but he is a very tough rebounder who can even step out and hit an occasional three-pointer. David Potter is a quality option off the Tiger bench, as he can play either forward position and stretch out the defense with his outside shooting. However, it may be Jerai Grant who is ready to have a breakout year. Grant is a good athlete who fits perfectly into Purnell's scheme on both offense and defense; he will use his length to block shots and get the occasional steal, while at the other end of the court he is very good on the offensive boards with the added potential to emerge as a decent scorer.
