Cat Power is the stage name for singer and songwriter Charlyn 'Chan' Marshall. Her father was a blues musician and piano player and would prove to have a huge influence on her musically. She initially performed with a few backing musicians and began to make her name as Cat Power. By 1998 she had established herself as a force to reckon with on the indie music scene but she had become saturated with her own work and decided to release an album of innovatively interpreted covers next. She came back in 2003 with another critically acclaimed album of original material that featured guest stars Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters and Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. She would later tour with the legendary Nick Cave as well.
