On June 18, 1998 Bryan "Baby" Williams and Ronald "Slim" Williams, founders of Cash Money, joined with Universal Record's President Jean Riggins. Universal agreed to provide distribution, marketing, and promotion support for Cash Money artists. Initial releases included Big Tymers, B.G., Juvenile, and Lil' Wayne. They were true entrepreneurs and created a track record for discovering and developing artists from the ground up. The agreement between Cash Money and Universal allowed these new founders and entrepreneurs to take their dream to the next level. Cash money was founded in 1991 by the Williams brothers. The name they came up with for their artists and themselves was the "Cash Money Millionaires". The group issued the Baller Blockin' collection in 2000 which included contributions from some of the group's inspirations including Eightball &MJG, E-40, Nas, and Rappin'4-tay. In 1997 when Brian "Baby" Williams hit the big world of music, no one, not the fans, the critics or even Baby himself ever believed that that the rap industry would have allowed him and the Cash Money Millionaires to play a large part in the signature sound that is now known as the Dirty South. Within five years this artist and entrepreneur accumulated multiple gold albums with various artists and three platinum albums and had helped create an empire that forever changed the face of music. With the evolution of the newer and stronger Cash Money Records, a new solo artist was born, "Baby" a.k.a. #1 Stunna. He came out with his first self-portrait and mirror image entitled BIRDMAN. BIRDMAN which was to be released on November 26, 2002 showed that Baby and his team of comrades were not holding back. Baby teamed up with P. Diddy for the first single, "Do That" which showed a more musically mature Baby. Baby stated, "I ain't no rapper, I am a talker and on "BIRDMAN" you're going to hear Baby talk." Songs like "On the Rocks" and "Heads up" illustrated the "talk rap" that was thought up by the Birdman. Contemplating BIRDMAN Vol. Two, he continues to blossom as an artist while strengthening his vast empire. Although he became famous, his positive influences and charitable donations to the community did not suffer. Cash Money hosted an annual Thanksgiving Turkey give-away. He truly made a difference in his community and showed the world how much hard work and determination pays off when you are trying to make a dream come true.
Artist Biography - Cash Money Record Rappers
Lil Wayne has already made his mark as one of the world's youngest top talents. No one can match his quick wit, lyrical dexterity or down-home Southern charm. He is one of the few hardcore reality-rappers that can write rhymes without profanity. When he blesses the microphone, Lil Wheezy, as he is affectionately know in New Orleans, drops words so full of game and street wisdom, that he makes a person wonder how a young boy learned so much game. "I look at life like an older person," explains the 16-year-old rapper. "I think five or ten years older because of who I've been with all my life." Born and reared in the 17th Ward community of Hollygrove, a place riddled with violence and poverty, Wayne struggled to do right, but increasingly found himself attracted to the lure of street life. He listened religiously to local rappers of who were signed to Cash Money Records at one point. But Wayne did more than just listen to his favorite rappers; he was constantly penning his own rhymes, dreaming that someday he would make it. His day came sooner than expected when a friend introduced him to Cash Money Co-CEOs and founders Bryan "Baby"Williams and Ronald "Slim" Williams. One day Lil' Slim had an autograph session and Lil Wayne met them. "Baby told me to rap and I did. He gave me a card with his numbers, I started blowing up his pager and calling his office everyday until Baby saw that I really wanted to be down and he put me on." In 1997, Wayne joined forces with Juvenile, B.G. and Young Turk to form the Hot Boys, and dropped their blazing debut, "Get It How U Live," which sold over 400,000 copies in the South and helped Cash Money secure a distribution deal with Universal Records. Lil Wayne made a series of guest appearances on Juvenile's triple platinum selling "400 Degreez" and B.G.'s gold-certified "Chopper City In The Ghetto." Currently, the country is reeling from his stellar performance on the Hot Boys' gold-certified sophomore album, "Guerrilla Warfare."
It might seem odd that B.G. would title his sixth album Livin' Legend, considering the youthfulness of the twenty something Cash Money records act, but he is just that in his hometown of New Orleans where he has been releasing hot hip-hop records since he was 11 years old. It was then that B.G. made True Story, his first album. By 1993, he had caught the attention of Cash Money records honchos Bryan Baby Williams and Ronald Godfather Williams who snagged the preteen sensation for their budding record label that would also be the home to Juvenile, Lil' Wayne, the Hot Boys and Mack 10. Under the Cash Money label, B.G. recorded Chopper City, before releasing It's All On You, Vol. 1 in 1996 and Vol. 2 the following year. In 1997, B.G. joined with other Cash Money acts Juvenile, Lil' Wayne, and Young Turk to form the Hot Boys who issued the seminal album, Get It How U Live. When Cash Money Records inked a major distribution deal with the Universal Records in 1998, the label exploded on the national scene, fueled by Juvenile's 400 Degrees that included the monster hit "Back That Azz Up." B.G. fell right in line with his 1999 release, Chopper City In The Ghetto that spawned the song "Bling Bling" which has sense become a staple in regards to hip-hop vernacular. In addition to appearing on various Cash Money affiliate projects, B.G. dropped the album Checkmate in 2000, and returns with Livin' Legend in 2003. New Orleans-based gangsta rapper Juvenile was born Terius Gray. After beginning his performing career while in his teens, he released a 1995 album on Warlock titled Being Myself. He eventually crossed paths with Cash Money label owners Ronald "Suga Slim" and Brian "Baby" Williams, who issued 1996's Solja Rags; the album became a major underground hit, and set the stage for the release of 1998's 400 Degreez. In 1999, with Juvenile's popularity growing, Solja Rags was reissued nationally, and Warlock jumped on the bandwagon with a remixed version of Being Myself. The year ended with the release of a new studio effort, Tha G-Code, followed by Project English two years later in 2001.
