Cage the Elephant's turbulent live show is the perfect showcase for this American rock band from Bowling Green, Kentucky. It is Cage the Elephant's boisterous performances which made this smoking Kentucky-bred band the talk of 2009's South-by-Southwest music festival, and led USA Today to single the group out as a band not to be missed at this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Cage the Elephant's single, Ain't No Rest For the Wicked, reached number 32 on the UK Singles Chart. This in part led the group to sign with EMI Records after being showcased at the 2007 South by Southwest music festival, and moving to East London, England. Originally known as Perfect Confusion, the band is made up of lead singer Matt Shultz, guitarist Brad Shultz, lead guitarist Lincoln Parish, bass guitar and backup vocalist Daniel Tichenor, and Jared Champion on drums/percussion.
In August 2007 Cage the Elephant played for the first time at Lollapalooza in Chicago. The group released their self-titled debut album on June 23, 2008, to mostly very positive reviews, and has appeared as a backup act on tour with The Pigeon Detectives in early 2008, and with Silversun Pickups and Manchester Orchestra in 2009. Their single, Ain't No Rest For the Wicked, won honors as iTunes Free Single of the Week for the week of April 12, 2009. Cage the Elephant also made a national TV appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman in July, 2009.
