Buddy Guy
Buddy left the label to sign with Vanguard in 1967, and that's where he came into his own as one of the most acclaimed of Chicago's new breed of blues guitarists. Buddy began a long-standing working relationship and personal friendship with harpist Junior Wells at Vanguard and together recorded such albums as A Man and the Blues, This Is Buddy Guy, and Hold That Plane. In June of 1989, he opened the blues club, Legends, in Chicago. Guy has been playing the blues for nearly four decades and has established himself as the bluesman of the '90s. His newest best-selling albums, Damn Right, I've Got The Blues and Slippin'' earned him Grammy Awards in 1992 and 1996. He's sold nearly 2 million records in the past five years, and has also been awarded more W.C. Handy awards then any other blues artist and. Buddy has amazed audiences worldwide with his masterful guitar playing and his electrifying stage presence. Having earned this reputation, he continues to tour to this day.

 George "Buddy" Guy was born July 30, 1936 in Lettsworth, Louisiana, and began playing professionally in and around Baton Rouge in the early 1950s. He was inspired by local bluesmen Otis "Lightnin' Slim" Hicks and New Orleans based Eddie "Guitar Slim" Jones, as well as by the recordings of T-Bone Walker and Lightnin' Hopkins. In 1958, he beat both Magic Sam and Otis Rush in a club-sponsored "Battle of the Blues" contest, which led Sam to recommend him to Eli Toscano, owner of the Artistic and Cobra labels. Before Artistic went bankrupt, Guy recorded two singles "Sit And Cry" and "This Is the End". Guy then signed with Chess Records in 1960 and became an in-demand session guitarist there, backing such noted artists as Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson and Koko Taylor. "Stone Crazy," Buddy's own record, went to number 12 on the R&B charts in 1962. Guy toured England and quickly became aware of the blues/rock movement building there in 1965.
