2013 Hooligans in Wondaland Tour

Bruno Mars is not his real name. This should not be a shocker. Rather, the singer was born Peter Hernandez. It can be argued Peter Hernandez was raised to become Bruno Mars though. His parents were both musicians and he performed in a band with his parents and extended family on their home island of Hawaii beginning at an early age. Still, Peter felt he needed a name under which he could perform, so he took his father’s old nickname for him (Bruno) and the feeling that he came from another world (Mars) and created a musical persona.

Like many musicians, before he became a star he had to endure the cruelty of the music business. The promise of a record label brought him to Los Angeles at the age of 18, but ultimately the deal would go nowhere. Bruno remained a talented musician and manager Aaron Bay-Schuck would do his best to keep Mars busy while he worked on giving the artist a chance to record an album. This would mean spending time as a songwriter, becoming part of a three-man production team called the Smeezingtons, and moonlighting as a hook artist.

This flurry of activity kept him busy and it eventually earned him enough notice to sign a real deal with Atlantic Records. His first offering would be Doo-Wops & Hooligans. The album “only” went platinum, but its singles did spectacularly well. “Just the Way You Are”, “Grenade”, and “Count on Me” were certified international hits. Bruno Mars followed these hits up with a multi-platinum single on the Twilight Saga soundtrack, “It Will Rain”.

Bruno Mars has enjoyed this kind of success because he has eclectic musical taste. He uses this musical taste to create perfect pop songs that can hardly be said to be forgettable. These songs may have R&B roots or feature a note of rock, but it is something that appeals to the masses. He continues this with Unorthodox Jukebox. The album is certain to add some platinum plated albums to his wall and to further his career as he develops into the next great male pop star.
