The punch jolted Castillejo (154) and he covered up on the ropes. But there was more to come, before the sound of the bell Vargas ripped him with three more solid body shots to the ribs. Castillejo, who had won his previous seven fights, landed 119 of 552 punches, compared to 192 of 479 for Vargas. Despite being dropped in round three, Castillejo was able to last ten rounds with fellow former world Jr, Middleweight champion Vargas. But then, Vargas was able to floor Castillejo.

Fernando Vargas is a boxer from Oxnard, California and was born on December 7, 1977 and had been two-time world champion. His nicknames are "Ferocious" and "The Aztec Warrior". He was trained by International Boxing Hall Of Fame member, Lou Duva. Vargas has made innumerable records and we can say that he has more titles notched up in his belt than defeat. In 1992, he won the 132 lb. championships at the Junior Olympics Box-Offs, and came in second at the Junior Olympics. In 1993, he captured the triple crown of amateur boxing, the Junior Olympics Box-Offs, the Junior Olympics, and the Junior Olympics International tournament. by winning the 132 lb. gold medal at the Olympic Festival. By seizing the U.S. Junior Championships at 132 lbs., he became the youngest fighter ever to win the U.S. Championships. This solidified his position as one of the premier amateur fighters in the world. On August 20, 2005, Vargas defeated world champion Javier Castillejo in the Allstate Arena and moved up a step closer to a 2006 mega-PPV bout.
Javier Francisco Castillejo is a boxer from Spain and was born on February 3, 1968 and is the reigning WBA World Middleweight Champion, and has also previously held the WBC World Light- Middleweight Championship, giving him recognition as one of those few currently active fighters to have held highly-regarded World Championships in two different weight classes. He is nicknamed as "El Lince". He made his professional debut on July 22 of 1988, when he surpassed Angel Diez over six rounds in Madrid. In the same year on September 2 Castillejo again defeated Diez in the fourth round, that resulted in Castillejo's first knockout win. He had his first fight outside Madrid, and his first knockout win in the first round, was when he floored Juan Perez Torrejon. He had four more wins before he was defeated for the first time. On August 19, 1989, he lost an eight round decision to Del Bryan, in Benidorm. But he followed that loss with a streak of twenty two victories in a row.He recovered the EBU Jr. Middleweight title by knocking out the former WBA world Welterweight title challenger, Ahmed Dottuev, in round twelve at Suffolk, England, on July 2, 1998. On July 15th 2006, Felix Sturm of Germany was subdued by Castillejo in an exiting fight to grab the "regular" WBA middleweight belt.
