Until the release of the suitably titled 1989 blockbuster Nick of Time; her tenth album, Bonnie Raitt did not begin to win the comparable commercial success she deserved. The album rocketed her into the mainstream consciousness nearly two decades after she first committed her distinctive blend of blues, rock, and R&B to vinyl. Raitt felt an immediate likeness for the blues, after picking up the guitar at the age of 12. She went off to attend Radcliffe in 1967, within two years she had dropped out to begin playing the Boston folk and blues club circuit. She was soon performing alongside the likes of idols including Howlin' Wolf, Sippie Wallace, and Mississippi Fred McDowell, signing with noted blues manager Dick Waterman, and in time earned such a strong reputation that she was signed to Warner Bros.

Raitt immediately become known as a key favorite, not only applauded for her soulful vocals and thoughtful song selection but also for her guitar ability, turning heads as one of the few women to play bottleneck when she debuted in 1971. In 1983, she was dropped by her record label, Warner Bros because she was struggling with alcohol and drug abuse, but did not disappear from the music scene. After more than twenty years of singing and recording popular music, Bonnie Raitt achieved enormous success with her 10th album. Released in 1989, "Nick of Time" went to the top of the U.S. charts and won three Grammy Awards. At the same time, she walked away with a fourth Grammy Award for her duet "In the Mood" with John Lee Hooker on his album "The Healer".She followed up this success with three more Grammy Awards for her 1991 album, "Luck of the Draw", then, in 1994 she added two more Grammy's with her album "Longing in Their Hearts".Bonnie Raitt has become a founding member of MUSE, or Musicians United for Safe Energy. In July of 2004, she drew thunderous applause at the Stockholm Jazz Festival for dedicating a classic to U.S. President George W. Bush.
