Graced with a quick, sometimes sung delivery, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony burst out of the Midwest in the mid-'90s with a pair of massive hits ("Thuggish Ruggish Bone" and "Tha Crossroads") along with a great album (E 1999 Eternal) and then quickly unraveled. Eazy-E signed the group -- initially comprised of Krayzie Bone, Wish Bone, Flesh-N-Bone, Layzie Bone, and Bizzy Bone -- to Ruthless Records and released a debut EP, Creepin on ah Come Up (1994). The EP boasted "Thuggish Ruggish Bone," a conventional G-funk song with an unconventional array of Bone Thug rappers that became an overnight summer anthem, especially throughout the Midwest.
Bone Thugs n Harmony is a US rap group from Cleveland, Ohio. They were signed to Ruthless Records by Eazy-E in 1993. Their first EP, "Creepin on ah Come Up", featured production by Yella of NWA fame and came out in 1994.
The group adopted Bone as a surname, hence cousins Layzie Bone and Wish Bone joined with Bizzy Bone and Krayzie Bone. (Original fifth Bone, Flesh-N-Bone, has since broken away.) The band headed to L.A. on minimal savings and auditioned for rap star/label head Eazy-E over the telephone.

The Bone later rapped for Eazy in person backstage when he appeared in a Cleveland concert. Eazy released the Bone's first EP, Creepin On Ah Come Up, in '94; it has since gone quadruple-platinum. While many rap stars prove to be one-hit-wonders, Bone came back hard the following year with a full-length LP that eulogized their late mentor Eazy-E, who died from AIDS complications. Entitled E. 1999 Eternal, the LP smacked Michael Jackson from the No. 1 spot on the album charts and has sold five million units to date. Its single, "Tha Crossroads," won a Grammy and tied the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love" as the fastest-rising pop single ever.
In December 2002, one of their songs was admitted as evidence in a Missouri murder trial. This was to show the mindset of the defendant, Michael Tisius who was accused of killing two prison guards in 2000. The track was "Mo Murda" from Bone's 1995 release E. 1999 Eternal. Prosecutors insisted that while the track did not make Tisius commit crimes, he used the music to put him in the psychological state where he could act violently. Tisius's lawyer claimed that entering the track into evidence was a tactic to associate her client with negative media perceptions of rap music. Tisius was convicted on two counts of first degree murder.
A second round of solo albums sold even more poorly, and Bone became somewhat of a has-been. Occasional reunions such as BTNHResurrection (2000) produced moments of glory, but these were brief and few and far between.
