Bob James was born on 25th December 1939 in Marshall, Montana, U.S.A. He was always influenced by Pop and Movie music. He was with Sarah Vaughn for a period from 1965-68 and then he started working as a studio musician and later he was arranging and working on the post of producer for CTI. In 1974 he got a chance to record his purely commercial effort as a leader; later he was making big selling albums for his own Tappen Zee Label, and also for Columbia and Warner Bros. he also had collaborations with Earl Klugh and David Sanborn.

In 1976, he recorded his most popular set with UK soul fans with "Three". This set featured ‘Women of Ireland' and also his most remembered hit ‘Westchester Lady'.
