Good news for fans of Def Leppard, they have just announced plans for a 40 city tour this summer. Just like in the past, they are bringing a few special bands along for the ride. This year you will get 3 bands for the price of one. Poison and Cheap trick will be joining the guys for what I am sure will be an amazing rock event. They do like support their fellow 80’s bands. Last year they toured with Styx and REO and back in 2005, the band toured with Bryan Adams. Front man, Joe Eliot feels that, with times the way they are, if you can promise a 4 hour concert with great music people will come. The tour kicks off on June 23rd in Camden, New Jersey and goes through September 7th and finishes in San Bernadino, California.
If you want to see the guys this may be your last chance for a while. Eliot says they have been doing summer tours for the last 5 years and it may be time for break. He wants to keep the concerts as a “special event” and not something that people expect every summer. While they may take a break from touring Eliot also feels it is time to go back into the studio and record a new album. The last one, “Songs from Sparkle Lounge” was back in 2008. They guys plan to go out with a bang offering a high tech interactive concert experience.
When you look at what these band have done over the decades it is pretty amazing. Poison alone has sold more than 30 million albums and has had 12 Top 10 hits. Not to mention Bret Michaels’’ reality TV success. His show “Rock of Love Bus”, on VH1, is their #1 show. Cheap Trick has sold more than 20 million records and has had 40 gold and platinum recording awards. Plus they have done over 5,000 performances together. Def Leppard has sold a staggering 65 million albums and has been ranked #31 by VH1 as one of the “Greatest Artists of Hard Rock”. It’s amazing the staying power all 3 of these bands have. So if you like these groups it sounds like it is a concert you will not want to miss.
