Paul McCartney Tickets: On the Run from Time

Quite recently Sir Paul McCartney discussed his upcoming plans with Geoff Lloyd on Absolute Radio and the Beatle seemingly came apart from a PR stand point. Amidst the typical discussions of the upcoming On the Run tour, a new album, and the re-issuing of two solo albums, he lambasted the Queen of England for failing to knight any of the other three Beatles and put the ultimate decision to break up the Beatles on John Lennon.

Why would this man who has become the loving grandfather of modern music go off the promotional deep end? Well, we must remember that Paul McCartney has not always been so easy to love. He has caused his fair share of controversy and, with the re-release of two of his solo albums- Paul McCartney and Paul McCartney II- he is reliving much of the emotional landscape surrounding the time of the original releases.

McCartney, the album, was released just as the Beatles were about to breakup in 1970. Yes, his story may be true to a point. He, George, and Ringo may have been on the fence about disbanding and John may have said it was time to quit, but the band had run its course in a mere decade and had to contend with two driven, creative masterminds in John and Paul and one who had put his vision on hold in George.

Remember, the Beatles breakup was hardly without its share of outbursts from all the former members. They negatively reviewed each other’s albums, hinting that perhaps all the other three needed was a nudge when John provided a shove.

McCartney II came out after a five year delay at a time when Paul was considering disbanding Wings. He had just returned to his farm after being forced to cancel the Wing 1980 tour of Japan following his possession of marijuana and his being taken into custody. Ironically, it would be John Lennon who again served as the impetus for the band’s breakup, this time with the news of his murder.

Essentially, both these albums come from quite contentious times in his life when Paul was at a professional and emotional crossroad. To that end, a more appropriate name for the On the Road Tour would be the Turning Point Tour. Either way Paul McCartney tickets would still sell out to any kind of stadium (personally I think he should have gone all out and done a football stadium tour).

I am sure all the diehard Beatles fans out there that would rather live in a world where the Beatles always loved and respected each other will be glad to hear Paul’s next album will be all about the covers. So, while these albums re-release proves that time does not heal all wounds, Paul should be able to avoid that pretty bitter and trying emotional landscape all together.

Paul McCartney and Billy Joel Sing Together

Former CBS news legendary anchorman, Walter Cronkite died at the age of 92 this week. He was known to many as “the most trusted man in America” along with nickname of “Uncle Walter”. He reported the news for almost 20 years from 1962 – 1981 and he was the one people turned to for their breaking news and information. He was there to report the devastating news of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963, as well as he was there for the ground breaking landing on the moon by the Americans in 1969. When he retired, Dan Rather took over his spot at the news desk. Cronkite was well known for his parting comment each night “And that’s the way it is.” He is survived by his 3 children and 4 grandsons. He was married to his wife Betsy for 64 years but she passed away in 2005. He was part of our history and he will be missed.

We have been so obsessed by the Gosselins and their drama that we have not talked about Nadya Suleman, the Octo-mom in quite some time. Well she is back in the news with a bit of drama of her own. Her 2 year old son Caleb was rushed to the hospital after ingesting chemicals from one of his sibling’s volcano kit. He actually drank the solution and ended up vomiting it up. Just to be safe the paramedics were called. Luckily he was fine and after just a few hours mother and son were back home with the rest of their family. Wow that felt good to talk about her, I have missed the Octomom!! And while we are speaking about one “supermom” why not share what our other “supermom” was up to this weekend. Kate Gosselin and her 8 kids were in New York City this weekend for a TLC marketing event. Kate, minus Jon, plus 8 kids, 2 babysitters and their security arrived at the event and stayed for several hours. In addition to the Gosselins, the Duggar Family was there with their 18 children as well as Jen Arnold and Bill Klein of “Little People: Just Married”. “Jon and Kate Plus 8” should return to the air August 3rd. We will see.

A Beatle was back and performed at the new Citi Field for the first concert. Paul McCartney put on a fabulous show and the crowd went crazy. Ironically it was 44 year ago in 1965 that Paul and the other 3 Beatles performed at Shea Stadium. Paul sang old Beatles tunes like “Drive My Car”, “Got To Get You Into My Life”,” Eleanor Rigby”, “Back in the USSR”, “Let it Be” and “Hey Jude” to name just a few. McCartney had a special guest help him out with one of the songs. Billy Joel was there and sang “I Saw Her Standing There” with Paul. Billy Joel was the one who closed down Shea Stadium last summer and was back for this event. Paul also took time to honor two members of the Beatles who have both died, John Lennon and George Harrison. He played an acoustic song he wrote awhile back to honor John Lennon and played the ukulele to sing “Something” to honor George Harrison. It is just something to hear Paul McCartney sing all those all songs which have such a place in our musical history.

In wedding news…actress Leelee Sobieski is engaged to her boyfriend Adam Kimmel. So far no wedding date has been set. Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit got married to his sweetheart, Esther Nazarov. He posted the news via Twitter. A new hairdo I must tell you about and show you. I am not sure what was going through Rihanna’s mind at the time but she decided to cut her hair with a twist…a Mohawk…interesting, what do you think? Love it or hate it?? My votes…hate it!!!

Beatles Reunion

Tonight is Country music’s big night and all the stars are headed to Las Vegas for the 44th Academy of Country Music Awards. The show will air live tonight on CBS at 8:00 so tune in to see all the big winners (and losers.) IT should be a great show with scheduled performances by Rascal Flatts, Sugarland, Toby Keith and Taylor Swift, and as I mentioned earlier this week Miley Cyrus will be on stage singing “The Climb” from her new Hannah Montana movie. Reba McEntire will be hosting the event for her 11th time.  There is big competition tonight for the Entertainer of the Year award. Carrie Underwood is the sole woman up against 4 men in this category. She is competing against George Strait, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban.  I am personally hoping she can do it and beat those 4 men…good luck Carrie; you have had an amazing year!

It looks like 3 year old Mercy James from Malawi will not be going home with Madonna as planned but is going back to the orphanage. First the judge rejected the adoption claim based on the fact that Madonna hadn’t been a resident in Malawi for the 18 -24 months requirement before adopting. As one can imagine Madonna was very upset and has already started the appeal process, but Lourdes as well, was devastated by the turn of events. In addition to that, it seems that the baby’s biological father has stepped forward. James Kambewa is claiming he is the baby’s father and he never knew that she was alive. After getting the baby’s 15 year old mother pregnant he fled. The baby’s mother then died several days after the baby was born and Kambewa said he thought the baby had died as well. So now he is back and claiming that he wants his daughter. HE of course will need to take a DNA test to see if he is indeed that father and then he says he will be ready to meet Mercy. So we will just have to wait and see what happens. All I have to say is regardless of the new information about the father, why would the government make you be a resident for so long? I just feel that if there is better opportunities for these children besides living in the orphanage why make it so difficult? Absolutely, take some time and make sure you have a good family to adopt these children but asking perspective parents to live in the country for almost 2 years seems a lot to ask and who knows what other requirements there are. Hey Madonna can adopt me. Regardless what you think of her and Angelina Jolie they are truly helping these children and giving them a better life then they have in an orphanage. I just think anyone who is willing to bring these children into their lives and try to provide a better life them should be commended.
It was a night to remember at David Lynch’s “Change Begins Within” concert and benefit at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall this weekend. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr both performed solo sets during the night. Paul was actually headline the show and after his set he did what everyone hoped he would….he called up his old friend Ringo and the two performed on stage together for the first time in 6 years. How cool is that??  The two sang “With a Little Help From My Friends”, “Cosmically Conscious” and “I Saw Her Standing There”. I bet that was incredible not only to hear them together but to see them together as well. The event was a bit out there but I guess that is no surprise with David Lynch. He organized the event to increase awareness and funds for his foundation for “Consciousness – Based Education and World Peace, a charity that works to promote the late Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s Transcendental Meditation technique. A lot of stars and performers showed up to show their support including Howard Stern, Jerry Seinfeld, Sheryl Crow, Eddie Vedder, Moby.
