Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Are you kidding me??? It seems that Jon Gosselin needed to get away again and this time he is doing it with another new woman. There is a new Kate in Jon’s life and the two have been in the Hamptons for 3 days together so far. Ironically this Kate is Kate Major, a tabloid reporter for the Star. She must be in heaven with all this good stuff to write about!! The story gets even better; the two are staying in Michael Lohan’s house (yes that is Lindsay Lohan’s dad). The two are said to both be friends with Michael and when they needed a place to stay he opened up his home to them. Hmmm….I wonder what the Hailey Glassman thinks about this arrangement and I don’t even want to know what his soon to be ex wife thinks about the whole thing. Glad he is having such a blast while his 8 kids are at home with mom.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is celebrating its 25th Anniversary! In honor of the celebration there will be two all star concerts held at Madison Square Garden on October 29 and 30. Everyone performing is already an inductee into the Hall of Fame. Some of the performers who will be there are U2, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Metallica, Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel will both be there and will perform together and separately. In addition to the big concerts a 9 DVD set which will show highlights from all the induction ceremonies of the last 25 years as well as a book of profiles of all the inductees. Proceeds from the concerts will go to establish an “endowment for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation”.
A Baldwin files bankruptcy. Stephen Baldwin and his wife Kennya are in way over their heads and owe a lot of money to a lot of people, starting with the banks. They owe $1.2 million on their home, plus $70 thousand in credit card debt and over $1 million in taxes….gulp!! Their home was scheduled for auction today and is valued at $1.1 million and they bought it for $515,000 back in 1997.  The actor most recently appeared on the controversial season of “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here” and was also on “Celebrity Apprentice."

“Project Runway” is finally getting close to returning after a way too long hiatus. Good news though, the season 6 premiere is less than a month away.  In addition to the premiere Lifetime is treating us to a two hour “Project Runway All Star Challenge” airing right before the premiere on August 20. They have just announced who will be competing for the $100,000 prize and it should be a great 2 hours. From season 2, Daniel Vosovic and Santino Rice, and from season 3, Uli Herzner, Mychael Knight, and Jeffrey Sebelia. From season 4 Chris March and Sweet P, and Korto Momolu from season 5.  Joining them will be Tim Gunn, Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia. I can’t wait!!!

Happy News for the “Millionaire Matchmaker”, Patti Stanger, she is engaged to her boyfriend Andy Friedman. The two met 5 1/2 years ago and were set up by a matchmaker. Singer, Kelis welcomed a baby boy on Tuesday named, Knight. Kelis will be raising the baby herself since her and the baby’s father, rapper Nas are no longer together. The couple filed for divorce when she was 7 months pregnant, “citing verbal abuse, and infidelity.” It is official; Eddie Cibrian’s wife has left him. She says that, “Eddie and Leann (Rimes) deserve each other.” That is just an ugly ugly situation. Eddie has two young children ages 6 and 2.

You have got to love Coldplay…listen to what the band is doing for their fans during these hard times. They just announced that for every fan that attends there “Vida la Vida” summer concert on the North America leg of their tour, they will receive a free live album from the band. How awesome is that? And for those unable to attend the concert they can download 9 songs from “LeftRightLeftRightLeft” at the bands official Coldplay website. The band said in a statement that “Playing live is what we love. This album is a thank you to our fans – the people who give us a reason to do it and make it happen.

There is a big celebration planned for this Sunday to honor and celebrate singing legend and activist Pete Seeger, who is turning 90.  For those of you who don’t know him you will once I share a few of his famous songs. He is famous for, “Where Have All the Flowers Gone”, as well as “If I Had a Hammer” and “Turn!Turn! Turn!”.  The celebration that will be held at Madison Square Garden will be a 4 hour concert event with performers such as Emmy Lou Harris, Dave Matthews, Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder plus many more are scheduled to perform. The event is a benefit to help raise money for Seeger’s charity, the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, which helps preserve the river from all the pollution. Seeger himself is scheduled to sing one of his songs but he is not sharing which one he will be doing. Although turning 90, Seeger has not slowed down, he performed at President Obama’s inauguration, as well as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival last month, and he just released a new album. It should be a special night for a special man.

David Blaine is handing out “how to survive starvation advice” to Mia Farrow, who is now on day 5 of her hunger strike, to raise awareness for the Darfur situation. If you remember, Blaine went 44 days without food while he hung out over the Thames River in London. So his advice for Farrow…drink 4 liters of water a day and after 6 days you will stop feeling hungry. Well she is almost there, let’s hope he is right. Farrow is said to be very weak already and spends most of her time in bed. Her goal is to not eat for 3 weeks.
IT seems to be true love for Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey who if you can believe it are celebrating their one year anniversary. That is pretty big in Hollywood, don’t you think? The two celebrated in Las Vegas this week at the Palms Casino Resort. Nick surprised Mariah with a video that he put together of the couple’s first year together. It brought Mariah to tears. After the video, Nick told Mariah and all their friends that had been invited to their anniversary celebration that, “this is the most amazing person in the world. I dedicate my life to her daily, and together this union is gonna last forever. She is my rock.” Awww…love him! Congratulations guys, I hope it does last forever.

Dolphins Stadium Tickets in Demand, Fans Prefer Warm Weather to Chill of New York

Most of the time the biggest acts get all the attention but the holiday season is known as a chance to go home and I think the biggest venues have been neglected. The holiday season brings big shows to these big stages, so for the past five weeks the Radio City Music Hall has been the top spot with the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, but event he holidays cannot withstand the draw of a championship game.

Dolphin Stadium in Miami is now the number one venue thanks to the Orange Bowl’s turn as the BCS Championship game. This year the Florida Gators and the Oklahoma Sooners will play on January 6, 2009, so do not look for any change in the venue standings until after the New Year.

Of course, those two top spots have been propelled by seasonal exhibitions. The epitome of consistency is the Gershwin Theatre. The number three venue has been able to survive the grim economic news and sell out all of the 1,809 seats each show most weeks thanks to the continued popularity of Wicked.

While Madison Square Garden and the Staples Center fill make an appearance in the top ten, they remain near the top for different reasons. Madison Square Garden is perhaps New York’s premier location. While the big seller is not the Knicks, the arena is busy almost everyday, whether it is hosting a Cirque Du Soleil production or a WWE event. The Staples Center has the celebrity draw of Los Angeles Lakers games in addition to huge concerts like the Celine Dion tour and the resurrection of Britney Spears.

These huge venues have been able to weather the recent economic storm and remain among the most popular and best venues. Hopefully this is just a gift from Santa. Hopefully these places can continue to draw crowds in the post-holiday session.
