Former CBS news legendary anchorman, Walter Cronkite died at the age of 92 this week. He was known to many as “the most trusted man in America” along with nickname of “Uncle Walter”. He reported the news for almost 20 years from 1962 – 1981 and he was the one people turned to for their breaking news and information. He was there to report the devastating news of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963, as well as he was there for the ground breaking landing on the moon by the Americans in 1969. When he retired, Dan Rather took over his spot at the news desk. Cronkite was well known for his parting comment each night “And that’s the way it is.” He is survived by his 3 children and 4 grandsons. He was married to his wife Betsy for 64 years but she passed away in 2005. He was part of our history and he will be missed.
We have been so obsessed by the Gosselins and their drama that we have not talked about Nadya Suleman, the Octo-mom in quite some time. Well she is back in the news with a bit of drama of her own. Her 2 year old son Caleb was rushed to the hospital after ingesting chemicals from one of his sibling’s volcano kit. He actually drank the solution and ended up vomiting it up. Just to be safe the paramedics were called. Luckily he was fine and after just a few hours mother and son were back home with the rest of their family. Wow that felt good to talk about her, I have missed the Octomom!! And while we are speaking about one “supermom” why not share what our other “supermom” was up to this weekend. Kate Gosselin and her 8 kids were in New York City this weekend for a TLC marketing event. Kate, minus Jon, plus 8 kids, 2 babysitters and their security arrived at the event and stayed for several hours. In addition to the Gosselins, the Duggar Family was there with their 18 children as well as Jen Arnold and Bill Klein of “Little People: Just Married”. “Jon and Kate Plus 8” should return to the air August 3rd. We will see.
A Beatle was back and performed at the new Citi Field for the first concert. Paul McCartney put on a fabulous show and the crowd went crazy. Ironically it was 44 year ago in 1965 that Paul and the other 3 Beatles performed at Shea Stadium. Paul sang old Beatles tunes like “Drive My Car”, “Got To Get You Into My Life”,” Eleanor Rigby”, “Back in the USSR”, “Let it Be” and “Hey Jude” to name just a few. McCartney had a special guest help him out with one of the songs. Billy Joel was there and sang “I Saw Her Standing There” with Paul. Billy Joel was the one who closed down Shea Stadium last summer and was back for this event. Paul also took time to honor two members of the Beatles who have both died, John Lennon and George Harrison. He played an acoustic song he wrote awhile back to honor John Lennon and played the ukulele to sing “Something” to honor George Harrison. It is just something to hear Paul McCartney sing all those all songs which have such a place in our musical history.
