The Van’s Warped Tour is the largest traveling music festival in the United States and is held in venues such as parking lots or fields upon which the stages and other structures are constructed prior to and for the duration of the event. Vans the skateboard shoe manufacturer among others, has sponsored the event every year since 1995, and the festival has been called the Vans Warped Tour since 1996. What began as a showcase for alternative and punk rock music and has grown to feature very diverse genres. The Vans Warped Tour is the longest running touring music festival in North America. The festival usually features as many as a 100 bands that play for 30 minutes over approximately 10 different stages with the well-known bands generally playing between the alternating two main stages. Bands typically start at 11:00 am and end around 9:00 pm, with several bands playing at once. There is an inflatable board with band times and stages marked usually centered in the venue. The tour started as a skate punk and their wave-ska tour and later crossed over to feature mostly pop punk and metal core acts and there is no set way of being put up as each venue has a different layout the only consistency is that it is set up early the first morning and taken down usually during the last show of the festival. In 1998, the tour went international to include venues in Australia, Japan, Europe, Canada, and the United States.
