Lollapalooza is here to stay for at least another 10 years. Chicago has been the music festivals current home since the show was revived in 2005 and it is here to stay until at least 2018. Grant Park has been the festival grounds and so far has generated over $4 million that goes to the park district. With this new contract the city is hoping to generate more than $12 million. Those should be some awesome parks for the kids in Chicago, don’t you think?
This years big even will take place August 7th – 9th and although no line up has been announced yet, there are sure to be some great bands to see this summer. Some of the pass shows have included Kanye West, Amy Winehouse, Pearl Jam, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, plus so many others.
Lollapalooza came to fruition all thanks to Perry Farrell, of Jane’s Addiction, who was the brain behind this whole phenomenon. It was actually meant to be the farewell tour for the band and look what it turned into. What he created by bringing all these bands together is pretty amazing. Lollapalooza really kick started the careers of many bands today like, Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Hole. Tickets are already on sale and being bought up even though no one knows who will be there this year. So until then we will be anxiously waiting to hear the big announcement.
