Coldplay is the band to see if you are in the Australia area this winter. The band originally was set to play only 2 shows in Melbourne in March but has added a 3rd and in Sydney, 2 more shows have been added for a total of 4 in that city. A 2nd show was also added in Perth, plus there are 2 shows scheduled in Brisbane. There was just a huge demand for tickets during the presale window so Chugg Entertainment decided to immediately add more shows and make more tickets available. The interest that Coldplay is generating is huge and really much more then the production company had anticipated. Not only is this great for the band but it is great for the fans because it is a great show, in fact the production manger Jon Pope says” this is one of the best shows I have ever seen in my 30 years of touring.” Can’t beat a comment like that. It is just so awesome for the band. Last time they were in Australia was in 2006, so the fans are ready for their return.
With all that is going good with the band they do have some controversy to deal with. The band is being sued by guitarist, Joe Satriani. Satriani states that the band plagiarized his song “IF I Could Fly”. He feels that their hit song “Viva La Vida” is very similar to his. He says he is not the only one who thought this. When “Viva La Vida” fist came out, Satriani says he got tons of emails from people suggesting that they recognized the similarities as well. Chris Martin, from Coldplay categorically says that their song is an original and they did not to anything wrong. Mean while we will just have to wait and see what happens next.
For now what we do know for sure is that Coldplay is on fire. ITunes recently said that “Viva La Vida” along with “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis were the 2 most popular albums downloaded in 2008. The band has sold over 2 million copies of “Viva La Vida” and more then 500,000 of those were sold digitally. They also had the 2nd top selling song of the year on ITunes with “Viva la Vida” .Way to go Coldplay!!
