Bloc Party
If you are in the mood to hear some of the absolute cutting edge in art rock then you need to get your tickets to see Bloc Party live in concert. Often resurrected, never duplicated, Bloc Party is a band that has added a whole new dimension to the sound of post-punk/indie rock as we know it today and has broken through a number of musical barriers in the process.
The band was brought together by its two core members Russell Lissack and
Kele Okereke who first met each other in school. It wouldn't be until they ran into each other again at a Reading Festival that the duo would decided to come together to form a band, which they initially called Union. The band would go through a number of names like Diet, The Angel Range and Superheroes of BMX before settling on Bloc Party.
The band initially began making waves with a number of singles they released, which include the smash hit 'She's Hearing Voices'. However, it wasn't until Okereke pushed a few demos into the hands of Steve Lamacq and Franz Ferdinand vocalist Alex Kopranos that the band got their real first break. Lamacq played the track on his show and described it as genius, later inviting the band to come and record a session.

By 2004 Bloc Party was setting the UK buzzing and the buzz got louder with the release of their highly acclaimed debut album Silent Alarm which was recently voted by the people at NME as the album of the year for 2005. The album spawned a number of hit singles but oddly enough, the band was never able to break into the American mainstream and remains an underground outfit. The band has recently put together some new material for their forthcoming album.
