Black Tie & Boots Ball

The Black Tie and Boot Inaugural Ball was started in 1981 and is held in collaboration with the Texas State Society, which was started way back in 1905 and has boasted of members like Lyndon Johnson and Jim Wright. Today the ball has become one of the biggest bashes in the country, with the President and First Lady themselves coming down and having a little fun Texas style. The event is an unofficial welcome for new presidents after they have been elected.
As with all things in Texas, this ball is done right with preparations starting five days in advance. In the past, the Ball has covered three floors, three halls with exhibits, three outdoor tents and seven ballrooms. 960 yellow roses were emblazoned with the Texas State Society emblem and all attendees were given a cowboy hat and a John Deere cap. Attendance has reached as much as 12000.
