Apart from his work with Iced Earth, Beyond Fear is a heavy metal-band started by Tim "Ripper" Owens in March, 2005 as a lateral project. In a month, a demo was recorded, and the debut album was emancipated, a year later. As their debut album was released, in the same year, guitarist Dwayne Bihary departed from the band, reasons little-known. In 2007, bassist Dennis Hayes united with Iced Earth, as a replacement for James Wallace, and will perform on the band's next 2 albums. Tim has signed a world wide record deal with SPV, the self-titled, Beyond Fear cd came out in May 2006. The album when heard is old school metal with classic metal vocals. "The Beyond Fear CD might be the best reviewed CD Tim has ever done...just see for yourself!", is what the critics said. Along with Tom, Dennis Hayes is the current bassist for Iced Earth and Beyond Fear, will play on their two upcoming "Something Wicked" albums. Dennis also played in the Heavy Metal band Seven Witches from 2004 to 2005, but left to form Beyond Fear together with Tim "Ripper" Owens. Dennis and Tim have also played together in Winters Bane, on the 1993 album Heart of a Killer.
Artist Biography - Beyond Fear
Coming from Akron, Ohio, Owens grew up to be a major metal fan. There have been a couple of times through out heavy metal's history, that a fan was fortunate enough to hit a spot with their favorite band due to a vacancy, such as Jason Newsted who got to join Metallica, and Tim "Ripper" Owens fronting a Judas Priest cover band (called British Steel) with utmost confidence. Owens also fronted other local groups, including Brainicide, U.S. Metal, Winter's Bane, and Seattle, as he formulated a multi-octave vocal range, just like his hero, Rob Halford. During this time, Owens and Winter's Bane guitarist Lou St. Paul penned a concept album together, Heart of a Killer, which "told the story of a murderer who gets a heart transplant from the same Judge that sentenced him to the death penalty". The album was primitively issued on a small independent record label in Germany as it was recorded in Germany over a period of three weeks. In 2000, Century Media label reissued the old Winter's Bane release, Heart of a Killer, complete with extra added live and demo bonus tracks in 2000. At the same time, a movie was being made based on Owens' emergence from abstruseness to front in his favorite band, and the project, finally did not materialize, though Priest was involved in it. The film, 2001's Rock Star, was made with actor Mark Wahlberg who played the role of a singer based on Owens. Judas Priest issued their second studio album with Owens, Demolition in the same year. Tim and Priest split in 2003, and he joined with the Band ICED EARTH, in 2005 and recorded the CD The Glorious Burden, which has some of Tim's best vocals to date. The CD was critically acclaimed, loved by the people and is said to be the best Iced Earth CD as of yet.
