Bettye LaVette Tickets for Sale

Bettye LaVette is one of the greatest live performers alive. Bettye was born in Muskegon, Michigan in1946, she was six years old when her family shifted to Detroit. People have a misconception that she grew up in a Baptist church singing gospel. That is absolutely untrue, it is the depth and soulfulness of her voice that gives the impression that she may have started out in Church.

Bettye LaVette was a great singer form her early childhood, amazingly she cut her first album when she was 16 years old for Johnnie Mae Matthews, an important figure in the R&B scene in Detroit. The record was out for a little while before she was signed up by Atlantic Records in New York. The company bought the rights to the record and released it on their label. The record was a huge success.

This led to a tour where LaVette went to promote the song with her idol, Clyde McPhatter. Her talent was so illuminating that she was soon touring with the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. Bettye got her next taste of success with her hit, "Let Me Down Easy" released on Calla Records. It became her signature song and also a world wide hit. Through out her career, LaVette worked under many labels. Prominent among them were Karen, where she recorded "Hey Love" which was written for her by dear friend, Stevie Wonder; Epic Records who produced the wonderful "You're A Man of Words - I'm A Woman of Action" and Silver Fox who brought forth "He Made A Woman Out of Me"

LaVette eventually returned to her first label, Atlantic Records. Here she cut an album "Child of the '70s." But due to many problems the album could not be released. But that was not the end of her challenges, she faced a new opportunity when she was offered a chance to star in a Broadway show. She went on to play the role in the hit musical, "Bubbling Brown Sugar" opposite Cab Calloway. The musical was showered with accolades and praises. She continued her career with the Broadway and touring companies for another six years.

Her Broadway career had put her recording career on hold, but she recorded "Doin' The Best That I Can," in 1979 during the disco craze. To her surprise, the record became a huge hit and became a disco classic. After the exit of Diana Ross from Motown in 1982, the company offered Bettye LaVette a record contract. She agreed and Steve Buckingham produced her critically acclaimed album "Tell Me A Lie."

In 2000, she was overjoyed when the masters of "Child of the 70s" were found and released in 2000 as "Souvenirs" by the French record company, Arts & Soul. The album also included the classic "Your Turn to Cry." Bettye continued to frequent Europe where she had a huge fan base. She arrived in Holland in 2001 and recorded a "live" album for Munich Records titled, "Let Me Down Easy - In Concert." The CD was well received commercially and critically.

Described in the New York Times as having "pure, magnificent soul: passion carried by an eloquent voice and exquisite timing," she was the hit of last year's Chicago Blues Festival. Said Chicago Tribune critic, Kevin McKeough, "Lavette sang in a raspy, sultry voice that resembled Tina Turner, filling her soul ballads with murmurs, growls and cries." Recalling her January stint at the Dakota, Star Tribune critic Jon Bream noted, "She's old-school in sound and attitude, singing with her entire body, and without compromise."

With engagements pouring in and Miss LaVette loving all the attention and success, she is looking to make a great second coming. Don't miss her live performances because after that you'll never forget her! Contact your on-line ticket vendor and get the tickets as soon a possible.
