‘Bergenfield’ is a borough in the Bergen County in New Jersey in the USA. This city was formed from the portions of Englewood and Palisades Townships at the height of ‘boroughitis’ phenomenon. It was then swept through Bergen County on the basis of a referendum held on June 25, 1894.

This city is informally known as the ‘Little Manila of Bergen County.’ Out of the totsl 14,224 Filipino inhabitants of the USA as a whole, 3,133 of them reside in Bergenfield. According to the US Census Bureau, this city has a total area of 2.9 square miles, all of it land area.

The Borough form of New Jersey municipal government leads Bergenfield city. Its local governance system consists of a Mayor and a Borough Council comprising of six council members. All positions are elected at large. The voters directly elect their Mayor for a four-year term in office. The Borough Council form of governance consists of six members elected to serve three-year terms on a staggered basis.

Timothy J. Driscoll is the current Mayor of Bergenfield, who will be serving in this post until December 31, 2011. The Borough Council members comprise of the Council President, Bruce Carlson, Barry Doll, Robert Gilman, Thomas A. Lodato, Dennis Mulligan and Elaine Rabbitt. According to the 2000 Census records, population of Bergenfield is 26,247 peoples. It has 8,981 households and 6,753 families residing here. Its population density is 9,065.4 people per square mile. It has 9,147 housing units at an average density of 3,159.3/sq mi.

The racial makeup of this city is 62.90% Whites, 6.90% African Americans, 0.24% Native Americans, 20.41% Asians, 0.02% Pacific Islanders, 6.47% from other races and 3.06% from two or more races. The city has 17.05% Hispanic or Latino population. Bergenfield has today developed into the fifth Congressional and a part of New Jersey's 37th Legislative districts.
