‘Bellport’ village is part of the Suffolk County in New York, the USA. This village is named after its early settlers, the Bell family. It is located as an incorporated village of Bellport in the town of Brookhaven on the South Shore of Long Island.

It is an incorporated village, which is governed by four trustees and a mayor. Each of the trustees is elected to a 2-year term, with 2 trustees up for election every year. The mayor is elected to a 2-year term as well. Even though Bellport is situated within the boundaries of the Town of Brookhaven, it is autonomous from it. That is the primary reason that Bellport is responsible for many local services like snow removal, road maintenance and garbage removal etc. Such services are paid for by the taxes on property within the boundaries of this village. The Brookhaven Receiver of Taxes collects these taxes.

This village has become a vacation location and home to the historic Gateway Playhouse. It was formerly fishing and whaling village. The Bellport Bay Yacht Club (BBYC) was founded here in 1906 that exemplifies its rich sailing history. The BBYC hosted many national sailing events. It is one of the more active yacht clubs on the south shore of Long Island. The BBYC celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2006. The South Bay Scooter Club occupies the BBYC building over the winter months.

As per the United States Census Bureau, this village has a total area of 1.5 square miles, of which 1.5 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water. Its population, as per the 2000 census, is 2,363. It has 993 households and 684 families reside in this village. Its population density is 1,619.7 people per square mile. There are 1,139 housing units at an average density of 780.7/sq mi.

The racial makeup of Bellport is 95.13% Whites, 1.27% African Americans, 0.38% Native Americans, 1.65% Asians, 0.08% Pacific Islanders, 0.21% from miscellaneous races and 1.27% from two or more races. Its Hispanic or Latino race is 1.78% of the total
