The artist known to many as Beenie Man was born Anthony Moses Davis in Waterhouse, Kingston. Destined for music at an early age, the five year old wowed the crowd at a party thrown by his uncle when he jumped on stage and got on the microphone. Having a relative in the business was extremely helpful for the aspiring musician. He has an uncle that was the drummer for Jimmy Cliff, that really pushed Beenie to pursue music. Only three years later, he recorded his single debut, "Too Fancy," for the late legendary reggae producer Henry "Junjo" Lawes.
Amazingly, Beenie released his first album at age 10 appropriately titled "Ten Year Old Boy Wonder". He then took a break from the music scene, and that break paid off. He returned to the scene with a vengeance in the1990's and has been on the music charts in Jamaica ever since. Beenie won the crowds over again when he beat Bounty Killer, another Jamaican artist in a sound clash. Soon after the victory in1994 he released a barrage of hits including "Matey," "Modeling," and "Slam."
Fast forward to 1996. Beenie goes on tour with another DJ, Shabba Ranks. The tour gave Beenie an international audience to appeal to, and appeal he did. Beenie released a since called "Dancehall Queen" and also played a supporting role in a movie with the same name. Beenie also broke through to American radio with the single "Who Am I (Sim-Simma)" when it was played on a station in New York.

With the success of his U.S. radio single, Virgin records decided to sign the artist to a 5 album deal in 2000. His major label debut, Art & Life won a Grammy for best Reggae Album later that year. He even performed a duet with Janet Jackson on his next album, a sign that he was growing as an artist. A tour soon followed with growing crowds for each show.
A car accident sidelined the performer for a bit, but he came out stronger than ever. He released "Back to Basics" in 2004.
