Be Your Own Pet is one of the hot favorite punk group from Nashville, Tennessee, USA. The group has a team of four members including lead singer Jemina Pearl Abegg, the daughter of Christian artist and photographer Jimmy Abegg, lead guitarist Jonas Stein who is the son of manager Burt Stein and Nathan Vasquez on bass who is son of famous Latin Jazz guitarist Rafael Vasquez. Jake Orrall who was the founding member of BYOP , was replaced with Vasquez, when Orrall quit the band to spend an year in Iceland. BYOP was founded in 2003 in the basement of Orrall's house, which doubles as a home studio/rehearsal place for indie label Infinity Cat Recordings.

BYOP has a sound, quite basic, primal garage rock because of which they are often compared to popular New York group Yeah Yeah Yeahs, not just for their similar styles, featuring heavy rock guitars with harsh vocals and erratic, angular rhythms, but also because of critical comparisons of Abegg to Yeah Yeah Yeahs front lady Karen O. Both being female and having an amazing and exciting stage presence.
