The company started as performers of traditional dance and music created and developed over the years into interpreters, innovators and trend setters by maintaining their faith and trust to the folk heritage while improving and dignifying the traditional dances. inherited with creativity, artistry and audacity. Bayanihan, the national folk dance company of the Philippines received twice the Gold Temple Award, the Absolute Gold Award for its over all best in dance, music, costume and production at the 50th Festival Internationale del Folklore in 2005 and earlier in February 2002. It also 60th Sagra del Mandorio in Fiore conducted in Agrigento, Sicily on February 9-13, 2005. The Gold Temple Award is a copy in heavily built gold of an ancient temple in Sicily, the archaeological capital of Italy. In 1999, the company earned the award for best traditional costume.

The Bayanihan earned the double win when its dancer Tina Martinez also bagged the Primavera trophy for her amazing beauty, grace and intelligence among the festival participants. Through all these the company has maintained its faith with their Founder's Dr. Helena Z Benitez's stricture that "Bayanihan has both to remain constant and to change and adapt.
