‘Barton’ is part of the southern Colerain Township of Belmont County in Ohio, the USA. This unincorporated community is part of Wheeling, WV-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. One of the sixteenth townships of Belmont County in Ohio, Colerain Township is famous international destination.

According to 2000 census reports, Colerain Township inhabits 4,438 people. Belmont County is an integral part of Ohio and sub-part of Wheeling and West Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The census reports describe that it has the total population of 70,226. The county seat of St. Clairsville derives its name from French for ‘beautiful mountain.’

West Virginia has its main city Wheeling that has most of its parts in the Ohio County as well, alongside its smaller areas in the Marshall County. This is one of the county seats of Ohio County. As part of the Pittsburgh Tri-State area, Wheeling is considered one of the principal cities of Wheeling Metropolitan Statistical Area. The reports note its population to 31,419 people.

The leaflets of history describe that Wheeling was once a settlement in the British Colony of Virginia that turned into an important city in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1861. It has been a location of Wheeling Convention, which was established in West Virginia. It was capital of West Virginia twice from 1861 to 1870 and 1875 to 1885. The Census Bureau defines Wheeling as an area consisting of two counties in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia and one in Ohio.

Barton remains in the limelight. The US law defines an unincorporated area a region that is not included as part of any municipality. Once such areas are incorporated form Municipal Corporation, it becomes a city or town with its own local government. Unincorporated regions are not subjected to or taxed by a city government. They are ruled by default as part of the larger territorial divisions like township, county, state, province, canton, parish or country.

Interestingly Barton hardly comes into this criterion. It has developed sophistically even though its official identity remains ‘unincorporated.’ The area is growing with pace.
