‘Bakersfield’ is a fastest-growing and densely populated city of the USA. This city is situated at the southern end of the Central Valley at Kern County in California. It is located at the equidistant between Los Angeles and Fresno at 180 km to the south and north respectively. It is the 11th largest city in California and 58th largest city in the USA.

As per the recent census reports, the Bakersfield Metropolitan Statistical Area has the total population of 780,711. This city has become the 65th largest metropolitan area of its country. It is recognized as the third largest inland city of California after Fresno and Sacramento to have this distinction. The city has sustainable economy with manageable agricultural, petroleum extraction & refining and manufacturing productions.

Bakersfield lies at about 480 km southeast of its state capital, Sacramento. The climate of this area is semi-arid dry steppe with hot and dry summers and brief, cool and sometimes rainy winters. Its peculiar climate makes it the sunniest city of the USA. This city enjoys long lasting and mild autumns and welcomes early springs hence enjoys excellent climate. As Bakersfield is located at 400-foot elevation, it lies near the southern ‘horseshoe’ end of the San Joaquin Valley. The southern tip of Sierra Nevadas is in its east. The border limits of this city extend to Sequoia National Forest at the foot of Greenhorn Mountain Range, and at the entrance to the Kern Canyon. The Tehachapi Mountains feature historic Tejon Ranch to its south and Temblor Range to its west featuring Carrizo Plain National Monument and San Andreas Fault. They are approximately 56 km across the valley floor.

The United States Census Bureau describes in its current data that Bakersfield has a total area of 114.4 square miles (296 km2), of which 113.1 sq mi (293 km2) is land (98.86%) and 1.3 sq mi (3.4 km2) is water (1.14%). As of 2008, its population has been estimated at 328,692 within the city limits itself.
