Badi Assad was born in a family of musicians. Her father, Jorge Assad is a player of bandolim. Her two elder brothers Sérgio and Odair Assad playing as Duo Assad are themselves celebrated guitarist through out the world. Badi wanted to be a dancer in her childhood. Her family brought her up as not only as dancer and singer but a superb guitar player as well. Her family has played an important role in making her a complete artist. At 14 Badi started to learn guitar.
At University of Rio de Janeiro she studied classical guitar. She has incorporated her classical playing into jazz and pop influences. Badi spells magic in her performances through her Takamine guitar, her voice and a little shakers. Badi is not interested in doing "academic" music. She once said "I want to play new sounds". Her new sounds are the main reason behind her success and popularity.

In 1984 Badi Assad was the proud winner of the Young Instrumentalists Contest which was held in Rio de Janeiro. In 1986 she joined the Guitar Orchestra of Rio de Janeiro. The Orchestra was conducted by guitarist Turíbio Santos. By the time she was 20 years old Badi had already performed in different corners of the world from Europe to Asia. Along with the guitar player Françoise-Emmanuelle Denis she had given performances in Israel, Europe and her home country Brazil. In 1988 she wrote a solo performance ' Antagonismus'. She was the dancer, singer and guitarist in the performance. In the musical 'Mulheres de Hollanda' meaning Women in Holland by Tatiana Cobbett she gave a superb and a versatile performance for one whole year.

Badi Assad released her debut album titled ' Dança dos Tons' (Dance of Sounds) in 1989 in Brazil. Album contained compositions by her brother Sérgio Assad, Roland Dyens and Leo Brouwer. Lyrics for her two compositions of Sergio were written by Badi.
She has played at Heineken Concerts for two times. First performance was in 1992 with Roberto Sion, Heraldo do Monte and Raul de Souza. She again gave a performance in 1993, this time with Dori Caymmi, Rafael Rabello, and Marisa Monte. Badi has played with Uakti , a percussion band and Dori Caymmi. Badi makes new sounds on her guitar through some objects which were introduced to her by Marco Antônio Guimarães. It was Marco who founded Uakti and and also invented a instrument for the group.

In United States Of America two albums of Badi Assad were released on Chesky Records. In April of 1993 in New York she recorded her ' Badi Assad-Solo'. Album also had works by Edu Lobo, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Chico Buarque, Egberto Gismonti including others. She joined her brother Sergio in combining jazz, popular music, baião and classical. She again partnered with her brother for creating another album ' Rhythms' along with Cyro Baptista, famous percussionist. For her performances Badi says " I play with my heart -- and my heart plays with me".
Over the years Badi Assad has been regularly touring and performing in Europe, Israel and United States Of America. Her concerts portrays her immense talent along with the new sounds she keep on inventing on her guitar.
