Subway Fresh 500 Tickets Regularly the eighth race on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series calendar, the Subway Fresh Fit 500 is held annually at Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale, Arizona. The 312-lap race is actually one of only three NASCAR events which are measured in kilometers, rather than miles or laps, with the 502 kilometer (312 miles) race starting at sunset and finishing under the speedway's lights during the night. As part of the 2005 NASCAR Realignment, Phoenix was awarded this second date which carried the Subway sponsorship. As there was already a race sponsored by Subway on the schedule, the name Subway Fresh 500 was created to eliminate some of the confusion. Subway later added the word "Fit" to the sponsorship to promote its Fresh Fit combo choices, and the other Subway-sponsored race has now become known as the TUMS Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville. The Subway Fresh Fit 500 replaced a 400-mile race at Darlington Raceway on the schedule after Darlington lost its fall race (the Southern 500), and its remaining race was lengthened to 500 miles and moved to May. Phoenix International Raceway's receiving the second date coincided with the installation of lights at the track, which permitted night racing for the first time since the track opened, and also an advantage that NASCAR has used to the fullest extent.
