Daytona 500 Tickets
Regarded by most to be the most prestigious and important race on the NASCAR calendar, the Daytona 500 not only offers the largest prize purse, but is commonly referred to as "The Great American Race" or "Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing". Daytona is a 500 mile NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race held annually at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, and is one of the series' four scheduled restrictor plate races each season. Matt Kenseth is the defending Daytona 500 champion; winning in 2009, before going on to also win the following week's Auto Club 500, making him one of only two racers to have ever won the first two races of the season. The winner of the Daytona 500 is not only presented with the Harley J. Earl Trophy in Victory Lane, but their car, in its actual race-winning condition, is displayed at the Daytona 500 Experience museum for one year. The Daytona 500 is the direct successor of shorter races held on Daytona Beach, where one part of the track was actually on the sand, while the other was on the highway near the beach. Earlier events featured 200-mile races in stock cars, but eventually the race was lengthened to 500 miles and moved to Daytona International Speedway for the inaugural run in 1959. By 1961, the title of Daytona 500 was the name that stuck, and what the event has officially been called ever since. The King, Richard Petty, holds the record for most Daytona 500 victories with seven – 1964, 1966, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1979, and 1981 – and is one of only three drivers to have won the historic race in consecutive years, with Cale Yarborough (1983-84) and Sterling Martin (1994-95) being the only other two.

Daytona 500 History
|
The 50th running of the Daytona 500 was held on Sunday, February 17, 2008; the first Daytona 500 using NASCAR's Car of Tomorrow, which was introduced in 2007, and which became the standard in 2008. That race also marked the first race under the "Sprint Cup" banner, following the Sprint/NEXTEL merger in 2005. In all, 32 cars finished the 50th Daytona 500 on the lead lap, with race winner Ryan Newman earning $1,506,040, while Kenny Wallace still took home $256,735 for finishing dead last. In 2009, the 51st running of the Daytona 500 was ended after only 152 laps due to rain. Although he had only led one lap under the green flag, being the leader at the time of the red flag, Matt Kenseth was declared the winner – his first Daytona 500 win in ten tries, and also the first for Roush Fenway Racing. Even though the race did not run the full 200 laps, per NASCAR rules any event can be ruled a complete race once the halfway point plus one lap is reached; in the case of the Daytona 500, that is 101 laps or 252.5 miles. Do not miss the 2010 Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing! All true NASCAR fans appreciate the history and tradition of The Great American Race, and need to get tickets as soon as possible for the next Daytona 500 on February 14, 2010, at the legendary Daytona International Speedway.
