Amp Energy 500 Tickets The AMP Energy 500 is the 33rd race of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, the seventh race in the series' Chase for the Cup, and held annually at Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Alabama. The AMP Energy 500 is also one of four restrictor plate races currently run, with the others being the Aaron's 499, the Coke Zero 400, and the Daytona 500. Through 1996, the race was normally held in early August or late July, but in 1997 after overwhelming fan requests, it was moved to early October due to the uncomfortable hot summer temperatures, and unpredictable thunderstorms in the Alabama area. The AMP Energy 500 has been moved again for 2009, this time to November 1 as part of a realignment agreement with Atlanta and Fontana; with Fontana earning a race in the Chase and Atlanta again holding a race on the Labor Day holiday weekend. Dating back to its 1969 inaugural race, then known famously as the Talladega 500, the race has seen many NASCAR legends and its share of notable moments, such as in 2005 when during the driver introductions, "Ricky Bobby" and other characters were introduced in order to shoot scenes for the movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

 Seemingly, the Earnhardt family has a special talent for winning the AMP Energy 500. Between the late Dale Sr. and current fan favorite Dale Jr., the father-son duo has combined to win ten of the forty races run since 1969 – Dale Earnhardt (1983-84, 1990-91, 1993, 1999, 2000) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (2001, 2002, 2004). Newly named in 2008, the AMP Energy 500 saw a first in the history of all of motorsports – 64 lead changes among a record 28 leaders! Two accidents, each involving ten cars, took a number of key competitors out of contention. This led to Regan Smith passing Tony Stewart on the apron of the tri-oval at the finish, but the pass was ruled illegal by NASCAR since it took place below the yellow line. The victory was awarded to Stewart, in what proved to be his final win for Joe Gibbs Racing. Talladega Superspeedway is always an exciting place for NASCAR, but with the AMP Energy 500 there is even more on the line as racers are nearing the end of The Chase.
