As I Lay Dying is a California based hardcore metal band. The band is based in San Diego and was formed in 2001. The band are a trio that consists of guitarist Evan White, drummer Jordan Mancino and vocalist Tim Lambesis.
The band released their first album, "Beneath the Encasing of Ashes" in 2001. The band then released a split CD with American Tragedy in 2002. The band finally signed a contract with a major label. The band signed up with the Metal Blade label and released their debut album, "Frail Words Collapse."After the release of the first album, there was a shuffle in the band's lineup. White left the band, Lambesis and Mancino then hired two guitarists Philip Sgrosso and Nick Hipa to step into White's shoes. The band also recruited Clint Norris as their permanent bassist.
